Association background: The progress and prosperity of a nation and a country are not exclusively the responsibility of the government, but also require established society to create new breakthrough in the business opportunities of diverse fields and sectors, in order to take advantage of the potential resources that have high economic value.
Natural resource potential and the climatology in Indonesia is suitable for the industry of various agribusiness sectors, including among other, is the fishery sector.
One potential of the fishery sector with the competitive advantage to boost the national economy is the ornamental fish commodity. Both the sea-water and fresh water ornamental fish have great potentials as sources of income for the people as well as national revenue for the State.
‘Koi’ (Nishikigoi) is a type of ornamental fresh water fish, which is the result of centuries of genetic mutation from a species of gold fish or carp (Cyprinus carpio). It is well known all over the world as The Living Jewel (Jewel of Life) because of the beauty and diversity of color and varieties, in addition to the high economic value that is very prospective for further development.
Since the 1980s many people became hobbyist by importing from the country where koi was first developed, and also many of them have succeeded in breeding koi locally, leading to formation of a koi phenomenon within the people of the communities.
Based on the inclination to enhance the relationship between koi communities in Indonesia, including Koi Dealers, Koi Breeders, Koi Hobbyists and Koi Observers / Researchers, a meeting was held by members of koi clubs from 7 cities (ZNA Jakarta Chapter, ZNA Bandung Chapter, ZNA Surabaya Chapter, Shinkokai Indonesia, Semarang Koi Club, Blitar Koi Club and Jogja Koi Club) on the 10th October 2002 in Semarang city. In that meeting an organization was established by the name of Asosiasi Pecinta Koi Indonesia (APKI), also known as Indonesia Nishikigoi Association (INA).
Mptto: This organization adopt the motto: “Forever Friendship and Prosperity”. This motto possess the idealism that relationship based on lasting friendship will generate a strong unity between koi communities throughout Indonesia, in the hope of achieving positive synergies and mutual benefits for all, resulting in creation of prosperity for the koi communities in particular and the Indonesian society in general.
Vision: Indonesia Nishikigoi Association as the organization, which can be a channel for activities of koi communities all over Indonesia.
Mission: Join together koi communities all over Indonesia, through mutual expansion as well as advancement of science and technology, in order to produce quality human resources, and ultimately benefitting further development of Koi in Indonesia.
Goal:
1. Increase unity and friendship among Koi community in Indonesia and oversea.
2. Develop community interest to keep Koi and broaden the awareness of its existence.
3. Support government programs to improve the welfare of the people, especially Koi breeders.
4. Help to promote the image of Indonesia on the international arena, which will eventually contribute to the economic growth of Indonesia.
